A compliance audit service taken off .NET Framework without losing a record
A console application sent audit records of significant user actions to a regulatory compliance API. It was pinned to .NET Framework 4.6 by an internal logging library that ran on a background thread the application could not control — so the code slept at intervals to stop logs being dropped.
I replaced the library with a direct call to the compliance API over mutual TLS, in small reversible steps: connection first, then dependency injection and async, then batching in place of row-by-row updates, then retries with backoff and a circuit breaker. Event IDs are deterministic, so the API discards duplicates from a re-sent batch. Records are marked processed only after a 200, so a failed batch simply retries on the next run. Configuration is validated at startup and fails fast.

Decoupling the shared log4net and app.config setup was deliberately left out of scope. Nothing was ready to replace it, and changing it would have touched the CI pipeline and the logs support teams depend on. That belongs in its own change, agreed with them.

A national records system modernised while it stayed in service
Six and a half years on the migration and modernisation of a records processing system used nationally: moving work off the legacy platform, reconciling data across government agencies, and building greenfield microservices for new capability alongside the system still running.
Continuous rather than big-bang. Identify what can move safely, move it, reconcile the data, and leave the service up throughout.

Clean code
Source that reads like prose. Tested, well-named, and commented where intent isn't obvious. Code that your team will be happy to maintain in two years.

Scope first
Smaller scope, sooner delivery, less risk. I build the thing that matters, then iterate. No premature optimisation, no half-finished features.

Measure early
Performance and reliability aren't bolted on later. I measure from day one — response times, error rates, cost — and won't ship something I wouldn't run myself.

I'm Stipe Bošnjak. Devbox Limited is my practice — a Dublin-based software engineering company with one person in it. I work with founders building a first product, teams running production systems, and individuals with an idea. From early-stage design through to long-term support.
There is no sales layer and no account manager. You brief the engineer who writes the code. I document while I build, and I stick around after it ships. When a piece of work needs something I don't do, I say so rather than stretch.
